Jaye Portigal is an award-winning commissioned artist with the uncanny ability to bring your photographs to life on a canvas. Jaye’s love for art began during childhood and has continued on as a lifelong passion throughout her adult years.

Jaye studied Cinema/Animation at Concordia University where she graduated with Honours. The Canadian artist credits some of her key skill sets to her Concordia education such as a unique 3D perspective that helps her place characters and objects on a visual plane. Jaye believes that her Bachelor’s degree also helped her art with everything from concept to delivery.

The fine artist has taken numerous art courses over the years, taught art classes herself, and studied under some of the Canadian greats. Some of her favourite mediums to work with are oil paints, water colours and acrylics.

Jaye Portigal creates custom commissioned portraits, landscapes and paintings of all kinds with a focus on dogs, cats and the people we love. Jaye makes it her mission to bring out the best in her client’s “beloveds” when she works on a painting.

Often when Jaye works on a commission, she will ask her clients to describe the personality traits of the pets, people, or various settings in the work of art. As she paints brushstroke by brushstroke, Jaye interacts with the piece and meticulously brings out the energy of the subject with stunningly accurate visual precision.

Jaye’s style is to add a dash of “mix of whimsy” into every painting. In this way, there is no mistaking her piece of art for a photograph, as it has a clearly artistic element to the visual.

With happy clientele all over Canada, The United States, Europe and beyond, Jaye’s artwork hangs on the walls of homes, offices, and veterinary clinics worldwide.

Jaye’s art has been featured in two seasons of Amazon Prime’s tv show Loudermilk. She has held vernissages, been featured in arts shows, and been interviewed by mainstream media.

While Jaye’s art is one of her first loves, her two mixed terriers that she rescued from Mexico provide the artist with her daily doses of joy. Honey and Peanut, a mother-daughter dog duo, sit by Jaye’s feet as she creates your paintings from a blank canvas to a lifelike image you can treasure forever.

Jaye creates commissioned artwork for clientele who are looking for quality, expertise and a mastery of the craft. Jaye also has a wide array of available art you can choose from to purchase from her collection. Many purchase paintings as sentimental gifts for others or for themselves.

A number of Jaye’s clients have lost a pet, or as Jaye says, they have “gone over the rainbow.” Jaye understands the loss of a beloved fur baby and feels a strong connection, and responsibility, when it comes to recreating images of loved ones who have passed on. Portigal’s late retriever mix Dexter, whom she rescued as a puppy, used to bark at her when she did not paint. The memory of Dexie barking at Jaye is enough to bring her back to the easel every time.

In addition to ordering commissioned or available artwork from Jaye, you can arrange for private art lessons online. Also, when restrictions lift, Jaye will be leading a paint night through Plan-Tastik Parties, as well as putting on various art shows.

Jaye believes that it is important to give back, which is why she created the “Thanks, Giving Back” program. 5% of all of Jaye’s sales goes to one of the animal rescue organizations that Jaye supports, including the one that she used to bring Honey and Peanut home to Canada.

When Jaye is not in the studio painting, she spends time with her children, family, and friends. She enjoys a vegan lifestyle, reading and listening to music. Above all, Jaye enjoys laughing and lives life with a “glass half full” perspective. Jaye’s positive energy shines through in all of her endeavours and her approach to business is “to make every client’s experience an enjoyable one.”

Jaye Portigal’s artwork is a reflection of years of hard work, training, and natural ability. Her signature style captures the essence of memories that can be treasured for years. Her eye for detail, ability to play with contrast and colour, as well as her mastery of layers creates a depth to all of her work that is unique and one-of-a-kind.

Jaye Portigal is a professional artist with incredible heart, skill, and experience.
